High in the hills of Banko Gotiti—soaring above 2,200 masl—coffee thrives in the renowned Gedeb district, an area celebrated for producing some of Ethiopia’s most exceptional lots. Around 400–700 smallholder farmers live within just a few kilometers of the local washing station, delivering ripe, handpicked cherries grown on their family plots, which average only half a hectare in size.
Coffee here is truly part of the household landscape, often cultivated right in farmers’ backyards. Nourished naturally with organic matter such as animal compost—and never with chemical fertilizers—these plants benefit from the region’s rich biodiversity. Alongside coffee, farmers also grow cereals and fruits to support their families, creating a balanced and sustainable agricultural ecosystem.
Harvested between November and January, this lot offers a clean, balanced cup highlighted by bright citrus and elegant floral notes. A gentle, tea-like acidity and medium body create a harmonious structure. Subtle hints of honey and stone fruit add depth and sweetness, rounding out a beautifully nuanced profile.
